About twelve years ago, I packed my whole life into one suitcase and moved to another country a thousand miles away from my home. My material possessions ended up in that suitcase, but my most important possessions were packed away in my heart.
In 2000 I left my home in Medellin, Colombia and moved to the Northeastern corner of the United States. I never imagined that this beautiful area of the country would become my permanent home. If you don't know this part of the United States, you must come and visit someday soon. It's beauty is simply amazing! Today I want to share a little bit about Kent, Connecticut with you. Kent is a beautiful small town in Litchfield County, bordering New York State. I've been to Kent many times, but no where near as often as I should, considering it's charm and beauty. You won't regret spending the day in this pseudo touristy town. Walk around the pretty downtown and stop in the charming gift shops and stores throughout the village. Have an iced coffee, cappuccino or chocolate truffles at Kent Coffee and Chocolate, or have a creamy gelato and sandwich at Panini Cafe. Buy old cool stuff from one of the antique stores, visit the galleries and museums, or go for a hike and a picnic at Kent Falls State Park or Macedonia Brook State Park. To complete your day, be sure to have dinner at one of Kent's many restaurants, such as DOC's Trattoria, The Millstone Cafe, or the Fife'n Drum, just to name a few. Be sure not to miss Bulls' Bridge, a historical covered bridge from the 19th century just outside of town, overlooking the water falls. On the weekends you will enjoy the Kent Farmers Market, which takes place on Saturday morning, May through October. If you like books, Kent has that covered too! The Kent Memorial Library offers a wide variety of wonderful books at their regular outdoor book sale. And let's not forget New England in the fall. Kent was voted the number one foliage town in all of New England, according to Yankee Magazine and YankeeFoliage.com. I hope you'll visit Kent, Connecticut soon and if you do, maybe you'll see me walking around Kent sipping a cappuccino or just relaxing on a bench enjoying an ice cream. Be sure to say hola!
